A telescopic boom extends straight out, which gives more height and reach per foot of boom. An articulating boom adds a joint so the platform can reach up and over obstacles. Below that sit the Elliott L65 and Versalift VO260 at 65 ft and the Elliott V63 at 63 ft. Working height is measured to where a worker can reach, not to the platform floor.

Start with the highest point your crews work regularly, not the rare job. Service and telecom crews often fit the 45 ft class, such as the Versalift SST-40-EIH or VST-40-MHI. Sign and lighting contractors working from two-person platforms often pick the 50 ft Elliott L50 or 63 ft V63. Forestry crews clearing tall canopy move to the 65 ft VO260 or 75 ft VO270. Taller booms mean heavier trucks, and the 75 ft VO270 needs a CDL driver.
